Dog-Eared Kitchen

Terms of Service

Last updated 18 August 2026

The short version

  • Your recipes belong to you. You can export them at any time, and cancelling never takes them away.
  • The service is in development. Things will change and occasionally break.
  • We do not check recipes for allergens or dietary safety. Read the ingredients yourself.
  • A paid plan is optional. The trial requires no card. Cancel whenever you like.

1. Agreement

These terms are between you and Dog-Eared Kitchen, operated from Colorado, United States. By creating an account or using the service, you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use the service.

2. The service is in development

Dog-Eared Kitchen is being actively built. Features will change, be added, and occasionally be removed. There may be interruptions and defects. We will not deliberately break things, but you should not treat this as finished software.

3. Who may use it

You must be at least 18 to create an account, and you must give an email address you control. One account represents one household. You are responsible for what happens under your account and for anyone you invite into your household.

4. Your content is yours

You own the recipes, plans, lists, notes and tags you create. We claim no ownership of them.

You grant us only the permission we need to run the service for you: to store your content, display it back to you and to people you invite into your household, and process it to produce shopping lists and hand them to a retailer when you ask. That permission ends when you delete the content or your account.

You can export everything you have created, at any time. If you stop paying, you keep every recipe you added — a lapsed subscription loses access to paid features, never to your own content.

You are responsible for having the right to store what you upload. If you import a recipe from a website or photograph one from a book, we store your private copy for your own use. Do not use the service to reproduce or distribute other people's copyrighted work.

5. Acceptable use

Do not use the service to break the law, to store or send anything abusive or infringing, to attempt to gain unauthorised access to our systems or other users' data, to scrape or bulk-extract data belonging to others, or to resell the service. We may suspend an account that does any of these.

6. Food safety, allergies and diet

Read this one properly.

Dog-Eared Kitchen does not check, verify, or filter recipes for allergens, dietary suitability, or nutritional content. It has no nutrition database and no allergen data.

Tags you create — including anything you might label "nut free", "gluten free", "vegan", or similar — are your own notes. They are stored as plain text. We do not verify them and they carry no guarantee whatsoever.

If anyone in your household has a food allergy or a medical dietary requirement, check every ingredient yourself, every time. Never rely on this service for that.

Nothing in the service is medical or nutritional advice. Ingredient quantities, unit conversions, and shopping lists are provided to help you, but you should sanity-check them before relying on them, particularly when scaling a recipe.

7. Grocery retailers and third parties

The service can hand a shopping list to a grocery retailer, or add items to a retailer cart where you have connected your account. We are not the retailer. Your order, its price, substitutions, availability, delivery, and any refund are entirely between you and them, and are governed by their terms.

Product matching is not guaranteed to be exact. Always review your cart before checking out. We do not know what is in stock at your store and we do not claim to.

We may earn a commission when you order through the service. This does not change your price, and it never influences what we show or recommend.

8. Free and paid plans

Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not receive or store your card details.

9. Availability and changes

We aim to keep the service running but do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. We may modify or discontinue features. If we ever discontinue the service entirely, we will give you reasonable notice and a way to export everything you have created before it goes away.

10. Ending your account

You may delete your account at any time. Deletion makes your data inaccessible immediately and permanently removes it after 30 days.

We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches these terms, that is being used to harm the service or other users, or where we are legally required to. Except in serious cases we will contact you first.

11. Disclaimer of warranties

The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any result obtained from it will be accurate.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Dog-Eared Kitchen will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or the cost of substitute services.

Our total liability arising out of or relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or fifty US dollars.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

13. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify Dog-Eared Kitchen against claims arising from your misuse of the service, your breach of these terms, or content you upload that you did not have the right to upload.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, United States, without regard to its conflict of laws rules. Any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Colorado, and you and we consent to their jurisdiction.

15. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change is material, we will update the date above and notify account holders by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the updated terms.
