Privacy Policy
Last updated 18 August 2026
The short version
- We collect your email address and the recipes, plans and lists you create. That is essentially it.
- We never sell your personal information and we do not run advertising.
- We do not store passwords — you sign in with a one-time link or with Google.
- You can export everything you have created, at any time, and delete your account.
- We earn a commission when you order groceries through a retailer link. It costs you nothing extra.
Who we are
Dog-Eared Kitchen is operated from Colorado, United States. For any privacy question, including a request to access or delete your information, email hello@dogearedkitchen.com.
What we collect
Information you give us
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Email address | It is your account. We use it to sign you in, to send household invitations you request, and for essential service messages. |
| Recipes, meal plans, shopping lists, tags and notes | This is the service. We store the content you create so it is there when you come back. |
| Photos of recipes | If you photograph a recipe card or cookbook page, we process the image to extract the text and we keep the image attached to the recipe so you can check it later. |
| Web addresses you import | If you import a recipe from a URL, we fetch that page to extract the recipe. |
| Household settings | Default servings, time zone, preferred store. |
Information created automatically
- Basic technical data — IP address, browser type, and pages visited, used to keep the service running and secure.
- Product usage events — for example that a shopping list was generated, or that a recipe import succeeded or failed. We use these to find and fix problems and to understand which features are worth continuing to build.
- A change history of your plans and lists, so that if something appears to have gone wrong we can determine what actually happened.
What we deliberately do not collect
- Passwords. There are none. You sign in with a one-time emailed link, or with Google. We never see or store a password.
- Card numbers. Payments are processed by Stripe. Your card details go to Stripe directly and never touch our servers.
- Health or dietary information as a category. This product has no nutrition data and no dietary filtering. You may type anything you like into a free-text tag, and we store it as plain text — but we do not analyse, categorise, or infer anything from it.
- Advertising or cross-site tracking identifiers. We run no advertising and no third-party ad trackers.
How we use your information
Only to operate the service. Specifically: to authenticate you, to store and display the content you create, to generate your shopping lists, to hand your list to a grocery retailer when you ask us to, to take payment if you subscribe, to respond when you contact us, and to keep the service secure and working.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers to run the product. They may process your information only to provide their service to us:
| Provider | What they handle |
|---|---|
| Application and database hosting | Stores your account and everything you create |
| Transactional email provider | Delivers your sign-in links and household invitations |
| Image and text extraction provider | Reads recipe photographs you upload |
| Stripe | Payment processing, if you subscribe |
| Grocery retailers you connect | Receives the shopping list you choose to send |
A grocery retailer only ever receives a list you explicitly send. If you connect a retailer account, we store an access token so we can add items to your cart on your instruction. That token is encrypted and you can disconnect the retailer at any time.
We may also disclose information if we are legally required to, or to protect the rights or safety of our users. If the business is ever sold or transferred, your information would move with it, and we would tell you before that happened.
Affiliate disclosure
When you order groceries through a link or cart handoff in this product, we may earn a commission from the retailer. This costs you nothing and does not change your price. It also does not influence what we show you: we do not rank, reorder, or nudge you toward any retailer or product based on what we earn.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can:
- Get a copy of everything you have created, in a portable format, from within the product.
- Correct anything inaccurate — you can edit all of your own content directly.
- Delete your account and everything in it.
- Ask us questions about what we hold, by email.
If you are a Colorado resident, the Colorado Privacy Act gives you rights of access, correction, deletion, portability, and opt-out of sale or targeted advertising — we do not sell data or run targeted advertising at all, so the last of those is already satisfied. You may also appeal a decision we make about a request by replying to our response.
California residents have comparable rights under the CCPA/CPRA, and residents of the EU or UK under the GDPR, including the right to object to processing and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
To make a request, email hello@dogearedkitchen.com. We aim to respond within 30 days.
How long we keep things
- While your account is open, we keep what you have created, because that is the point of the service.
- When you delete your account, it becomes inaccessible immediately and is permanently deleted after 30 days. The delay exists so that an accidental deletion can be undone; after it passes, recovery is not possible.
- Records we are required to keep — for example payment and tax records — are retained as long as the law requires.
Security
Traffic is encrypted in transit. Retailer access tokens are encrypted at rest. Sign-in links are single-use, expire quickly, and are stored hashed rather than in readable form. Because there are no passwords in the system, there is no password database to be stolen.
No service can promise perfect security. If a breach ever affects your information, we will tell you.
Children
This service is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy materially, we will update the date at the top and notify account holders by email before the change takes effect.
